September 11, 2001 — 2026
As we mark the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, we remember the 2,977 lives taken that day and the thousands who have since died from 9/11-related illnesses.
The impact of September 11 extended far beyond New York City. People from our community responded at Ground Zero and supported rescue, recovery, and rebuilding efforts during the difficult days and months that followed.
They were firefighters, law enforcement officers, National Guard members, military personnel, emergency medical personnel, nurses, doctors, construction workers, welders, equipment operators, tradespeople, business owners, employees, and volunteers. Some worked directly at Ground Zero, while others provided supplies, transportation, equipment, medical care, meals, and support wherever needed. Each answered the call in their own way.
Many in our community also lost friends, relatives, and colleagues, or knew someone whose life was forever changed. Others continue to live with illnesses connected to their service and exposure.
Twenty-five years later, these memories remain deeply personal, yet the loss belongs to all of us. We honor those whose lives were taken, those who responded without hesitation, those who became ill in the years that followed, and the families who continue to carry their absence.
We remember. We honor. We will never forget.
